Swimming I kick my legs, and gasp for every breath. never before could I rest, ashored. forever paralyzed by the ocean's breadth, I know that in the past I have gone overboard. A flickering light, a dream, reflected in the glass. I pour. I drink. My mind will take me there. I will not sink, I keep my head above. The light, it calls to me. Whatever I think, when push comes to shove I'll gladly wait and see. A warm light, a beacon, through the ocean of grass. I breathe. I float. The current will take me there.

A Farewell to Autumn

I don't count the footfalls on the cold concrete path as I walk through the leaves and the aftermath of a season that's leaving as swift as it came, trading breezes and sunshine for winds and cold rain. The days become shorter as the shadows grow long, and the crunching of leaves is the treetops' swan song, for the colors fading fast while the branches turn bare, and the neighborhood birds all take to the air. Headed south, surely, to a place without cold, where the sunlight is warming and the sea breeze is bold. I might venture with them, if just for a day, but I can't think of leaving- it's here I must stay.

We've been fighting time with nail and tooth, gaining ground but losing youth, made a Devil's deal with a natural force and we still think that we've won, of course. Nothing we do can make time yield as we spend our lives on this battlefield. But not all is lost in this maddening fray if you think back to a simpler day, before time told you "grow up and be good", back to a time called "childhood".

A writer like me always tries, you will see, to be clever with every line. We juggle each phrase and we brainstorm for days to come up with a quality rhyme. It's a matter of pride, so we all put aside some "broken" pieces for years. And then we run back and with fervor, attack it when the proper word crosses our ears. We hope you enjoy the words we employ when we decide that it's finally done. But sometimes we rush and oh how we blush when we see that we've leapt the firearm.

A man who smells of charcoal with sweat upon his brow takes a sip of cool beer and looks at the sky. He hears the sounds of children, of birds, of crackling flame. The clouds float lazily across his gaze. The sky is a rich, beautiful blue reminding him of the tropics- of palm trees and of sand. Tonight, he is content. For tonight, there is only "now". No future and apprehension, no past and regrets. Only the present. Only the sky.

The warmth in my chest when compared to the rest, is an inferno out in the snow. That familiar burn for which I've so yearned is something which I've come to know. That warmth is slowly spreading, and I know where it will be heading. Down to the pit of my soul. Tonight the words flow again as I welcome you back my friend, and you step right back into your role. Grounded in this reality but reaching worlds away a muse is set free from her cage as I write this here today. For months the words had dried up, had vanished from my mind, but it was up to me to set her free with a key I'd yet to find. Deja Vu

A sudden return after an extended absence - Now why does this seem familiar? Everything is going fairly well. My father is currently recovering from a hip replacement surgery (planned, he's fine) and I've been pretty busy as a result. Well, that and the ongoing fruitless job hunt. Not much has changed. Here's hoping everyone is doing well.

Night of the Living DAMN

So, it's been a while. I've been working on one piece for the past few weeks. It's being polished more than any other piece has, but it started off sounding a bit...contrived. Currently working to fix that. Which is kind of ironic, when you think about it. I've never been one for the blazer and jeans look, but giving it a shot tonight. Looks like I may just pull it off. Meeting up with some old friends, with the goal of re-living some of our glory days. Albeit, with a bit more class then we had back then. It'll be good to see them all. Spent most of the night and most of the morning working on something new. It's unfinished, but a work in progress. Like some of the lines too much to just let it sit. Need a break, though. Maybe a little more coffee. I'd also like to make a recommendation, an amazing movie I saw not too long ago (and I hope some of you may have seen as well). It's called Ink. It is magnificent and emotional, and one of the visually striking movies I have ever seen. You should look it up, maybe even give it a watch yourself. Let me know what you think.
